Title: Regional Director, South Florida

Reports To: Senior Vice President, Operations

Location: Hybrid, Must reside in the Southern Florida area

Background

The Community Security Service (CSS) is the leading organization for training American Jewish volunteers to protect their communities. At CSS, our mission is simple: Protect Jewish Life and the Jewish Way of Life. Through our tiered programs and training, volunteers learn to identify threats and proactively safeguard their synagogues, institutions, and events. We have trained thousands of volunteers across denominations and regions in the United States on situational awareness and operational security.

Responsibilities

  • Program Growth & Outreach
  • Oversee all CSS programs within the region, including the recruitment of new CSS synagogues for the CSS Synagogue Program (including Entry Point/Usher Greeters), synagogue training, CSS Events, and campus initiatives.
  • Expand the number of trained CSS Synagogue teams in the region.
  • Proactively build relationships with new institutions and communal leaders.
  • Volunteer & Team Support
  • Serve as the primary liaison for volunteer Regional Managers, and support the leadership development of Team Managers, and regional volunteers.
  • Support local teams with regular communication, promote training opportunities, and appreciation events.
  • Ensure accurate CRM tracking of volunteer engagement and synagogue participation.
  • Strategic Leadership & Community Engagement
  • Represent CSS as a thought leader on volunteer-led security across the Jewish communal ecosystem.
  • Participate in community roundtables, leadership networks, and security-related convenings.
  • Develop and support regional volunteer leadership.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration
  • Work closely with internal teams on regional communications, marketing campaigns.
  • Coordinate with the national training department to schedule and tailor sessions to regional needs.

Requirements

  • 7-10 years of professional experience in security, Jewish community security, Jewish communal work, or related fields.
  • Strong preference for professional security experience including military or law enforcement.
  • Deep familiarity with South Florida area synagogues, institutions, and leadership networks.
  • Comfort using CRM and project management tools to drive productivity, progress toward goals, and program evaluation.
  • Demonstrated success in project management involving administrative and logistical requirements and challenges. Proven ability to work under stressful circumstances and deliver results with short and recurring deadlines.
  • Proven ability to deliver effective program briefings in small groups and in public gatherings, in addition to a generally high degree of comfort with public speaking and organizational representation.
  • Ability to work independently with success in delivering results in sometimes ambiguous environments with little or no guidance. Self-confidence and sound judgement are critical to success in this role.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Experience in volunteer management and grassroots mobilization.

Other Considerations

Position Overview:

The Regional Director, South Florida will lead CSS’s work in the area. This senior-level position will drive the expansion and strengthening of synagogue security teams, cultivate relationships with new institutions, grow a CSS Events events team and serve as a leader in the broader Jewish community on volunteer security issues. The Regional Director will work closely with internal departments– including security, training, volunteer operations, and marketing/ communications—ensuring the success of both long-standing and newly engaged partners.

Other considerations

Must live in the South Florida area and must be eligible to work in the US. This position is hybrid, and the selectee will be expected to work in the Miami office 1-2 days per week, and should be available for occasional evening and weekend work. Some travel should be expected as needed; generally less than 10%. 

This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range between $125,000 to $140,000 commensurate with experience and based on location; benefits are competitive. CSS offers a competitive benefits package including health insurance, dental insurance and paid time off.

Full-Time: 40 hours per week, exempt from overtime

About CSS:

The Community Security Service (CSS) is the only national organization in the United States that professionally trains community members to protect themselves, their families, and their institutions. While founded in the U.S. in 2007 by members of the community with security backgrounds, our approach is built on a test model that has existed in Jewish communities around the world for generations. Responsibilities

  • Program Growth & Outreach

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of professional experience in security and Jewish communal organizations (preferably both), or related fields.Deep familiarity with the Bay Area Jewish community.
  • Comfort using technology, digital databases, and KPI frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success in project management involving administrative and logistical requirements and challenges.
  • Proven ability to work under stressful circumstances and deliver results with short and recurring deadlines.
  • Proven experience and a high degree of comfort with public speaking.
  • Ability to work independently in ambiguous environment with little or no guidance.

This position is hybrid, and the selectee will be expected to work in the Bay Area office 1-2 days per week, and should be available for occasional evening and weekend work. Some travel should be expected as needed; generally less than 10%. 

This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range between $135,000 to $155,000 commensurate with experience and based on location; benefits are competitive. CSS offers a competitive benefits package including health insurance, dental insurance and paid time off.

Title: Regional Director, Training and Security — Los Angeles Region

Reports To: Senior Vice President, The Academy

Primary trainer and focus on trainer development for LA region-QA and recruitment for

Walk throughs of facilities and follow up (operational not facility hardening)

Responsibilities

  • Deliver CSS training programs to volunteers and congregations throughout the Greater Los Angeles region, maintaining fidelity to national CSS standards and curriculum.
  • Identify, recruit, develop, and oversee volunteer trainers within the region; conduct ongoing quality assurance and mentorship to ensure instructional consistency.
  • Support the Regional Director in recruiting and onboarding new congregations, including delivering introductory briefings and assessing site security needs.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and document training sessions, tracking attendance, certification status, and skill progression.
  • Provide post-training feedback and remedial support to volunteers as needed.
  • Provide operational security consultation to CSS volunteers and organizations.
  • Support in the development of national SOPs and training courses.

Requirements

  • Minimum three years in Israeli or American law enforcement, military, or governmental or private security role, with responsibilities involving security operations, emergency response, risk assessment, protective security, or operational planning.
  • Minimum three years in an instructional/training role, developing and delivering content to law enforcement, military, or private security personnel, developing and delivering training programs for law enforcement, military, governmental, or private security personnel, including classroom instruction, practical exercises, and scenario-based training.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Greater Los Angeles region and work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to travel anywhere in the US to support CSS Training and Security programs, as directed by the Senior Vice President, Training and Security.
  • Background in combat sports or martial arts (e.g., Krav Maga, boxing, BJJ, MMA).
  • Familiarity with the Jewish community and synagogue operations.
  • Experience with volunteer-based or community security programs.

Other Considerations

Position Summary

The Regional Director, Training and Security, supports the delivery and growth of CSS training programs across the Los Angeles region. Reporting administratively to the Senior Vice President, Training and Security, and in day-to-day matters to the Regional Director, Greater Los Angeles, this role is responsible for training volunteers, building and supporting a regional cadre of volunteer trainers, and supporting congregation recruitment efforts. Additionally, this role will be involved in providing general security consultation to CSS volunteers and organizations to enhance all aspects of safety and security across the Jewish community. The ideal candidate combines operational security experience, proven instructional capability and a commitment to protecting the Jewish community.

Selection Process

Candidates will complete a multi-stage selection process that includes a background and reference review, multiple interviews, and a practical training-and-instructing assessment in which the candidate demonstrates the ability to deliver CSS-style instruction and manage a live training scenario.

Other considerations

Must live in the Los Angeles area and must be eligible to work in the US. This position is hybrid, and the selectee will be expected to work in the Los Angeles office 1-2 days per week, and should be available for occasional evening and weekend work. Moderate travel should be expected as needed; up to 25%.

Title: Program Operations Intern, Washington, D.C. metropolitan area

Reports To: Regional Director, National Capital Region

Location: Hybrid, Must reside in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area

Position Overview:

CSS is seeking a Program Operations Intern to support regional operations across the National Capital Region.

Working closely with the regional team, the Program Operations Intern will assist in coordinating and administering CSS training programs, volunteer activities, synagogue programming, and community events. This is a hands-on role that combines administrative and project support with opportunities to assist directly at trainings and events throughout the region.

The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities may shift based on community and program needs. The internship provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in nonprofit operations, community engagement, volunteer coordination, event management, and program implementation.

Because CSS programs often take place outside traditional business hours, candidates should be flexible to accommodate evening and weekend activities.

Responsibilities

  • Regional Program & Administrative Support
  • Assist with the coordination of CSS regional training programs, meetings, volunteer activities, and events.
  • Support participant communications, registration tracking, materials preparation, and other program logistics.
  • Maintain accurate records, spreadsheets, databases, calendars, and program documentation.
  • Assist with preparing forms, templates, participant lists, training materials, and other operational resources.
  • Help organize regional files and ensure documentation is appropriately maintained.
  • Provide general administrative and project support to the National Capital Region team.
  • Assist with special projects and other regional priorities as needed.
  • Training & On-Site Support
  • Assisting with training-site setup and breakdown.
  • Setting up tables, chairs, registration areas, signage, and training materials.
  • Checking participants in and supporting attendance tracking.
  • Assisting trainers and regional staff with logistical needs before, during, and after training.
  • Preparing and organizing participant materials and supplies.
  • Helping ensure training spaces are organized and ready for participants.
  • Supporting occasional evening and weekend trainings throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
  • CSS Events — Events Support
  • Tracking incoming requests for CSS event support and maintaining the regional events pipeline.
  • Maintaining the regional events calendar and tracking upcoming, confirmed, and prospective events.
  • Creating and organizing electronic event folders and documentation.
  • Preparing intake materials for regional staff ahead of meetings with partner organizations, including gathering event details and organizing information related to anticipated support needs.
  • Drafting and tracking event agreements and following up to ensure completed agreements are received.
  • Supporting the preparation of event security-planning templates and other operational documentation.
  • Creating and maintaining volunteer sign-up and deployment forms.
  • Assisting with post-event administrative closeout, including organizing documentation, uploading approved photos and materials, and updating event records.
  • Supporting proactive outreach and planning for recurring or upcoming community events.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program, or recent completion of a college degree.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Reliability and the ability to follow through on assigned projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort working with spreadsheets, calendars, shared documents, and online forms.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Professionalism when interacting with volunteers, community members, partner organizations, and CSS staff.
  • Ability to exercise discretion when working with operational or sensitive information.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a regional team.

Other Considerations

  • Must reside in the Washington, DC metropolitan area for the duration of the internship.
  • Must be able to work in a hybrid environment, including remote administrative work and periodic in-person activities throughout the National Capital Region.
  • Must be able to commit approximately 10 hours per week for a minimum of three months.
  • Must have some availability during evenings and weekends, when many CSS trainings and community events occur.
  • Must be able to travel independently to program and training locations throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
  • Ability to assist with basic event setup, including moving training materials and setting up tables and chairs, is preferred.

Background

Position Overview:

Internships with CSS are a great opportunity for college or graduate students to explore a unique organization that works at the intersection of security operations, Jewish communal service, training, outreach, and research. CSS is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated intern to join our dynamic team. Interns will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of nonprofit and community security work. Internships are available in four tracks: Research, Outreach, Security Training, Social Media. 

Responsibilities may include:

Research and Analysis: Conduct research on emerging security trends, threats, and best practices within the nonprofit and community security sectors.

Program Support: Assist in the coordination of CSS training programs and events, including logistics, participant communication, and materials preparation.

Communication: Contribute to CSS’s online presence by creating engaging content for social media platforms and assisting in the development of informational materials.

Administrative Tasks: Support day-to-day operations by handling administrative tasks, maintaining databases, and providing general office assistance.

Collaboration: Work closely with CSS staff on various projects, gaining exposure to different facets of nonprofit management and community security.

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in a college or graduate program.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Interest in community security, nonprofit work, or related fields.

Proficient in Google Drive and familiarity with social media platforms.

Duration:

This is a 4-month internship position, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs.
